Grant Arakawa Bio

Grant was born and raised in Maui and in typical Maui fashion is very relaxed except when it comes to Jiu-Jitsu. He first experienced Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Romolo Barros who traveled to Maui from Oahu to teach Jiu-Jitsu classes. Life got in the way and that stopped Grant from training for a while. He eventually moved to Oahu and started back up with O2 Martial Arts Academy and as they say it, it was kind of like riding a bike. He dusted off his years of rust extremely quickly and became one of he most technical practioners in class. A teaching position opened up and Grant took initiative and let Chris and Mike know that he was interested in teaching which they both were extremely appreciative and jumped at the chance to have Grant share his knowledge with the team as one of the head instructors of O2 Martial Arts Academy. Grant is a very detailed instructor and practioner and is constantly planning his classes and organizing the best way to present all his information to the members of O2. He has a very welcoming demeanor while training as well and is always open to learning any new technique or strategy from anyone and has absolutely no ego while teaching or training which keeps making him improve at a phenomenal pace. Grant has been active as of late on the tournament scene competing at the Master World Championships in Vegas in 2015 and 2021 and is using his experience and training strategies at his classes.  Grant has an aeronautical engineering degree, works as an airline pilot at Hawaiian Air, and is happily married to Nicole and has a son Pono.  Grant earned his black belt in Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in December of 2017 and is currently a 1st degree black belt.
