Happy Easter to everyone. Get a good rest because I have a feeling that it will be a long week. |
Royler beat Baret by the score of -1 to -5. The reports say that Royler controlled the entire match, but I will wait until I see the match with my own eyes until I agree with that statement. Last year, they stated the same thing, but Baret was an animal and gave Royler all he could handle. Saulo lost to Kikuta by a guard pass. Kikuta must be a monster on the ground. The absolute saw Jean-Jacques Machado tear up the competition even though he was the smallest competitor. Machado submitted Kanehara by armbar, Pe de Pano by footlock, and Cachorrao Almeida by points to reach the final. Arona defeated Neff by kneebar and Saulo and Belfort by points to face Machado. It seems that Arona beat Machado by 3 points, but had to eat a killer omoplata to win. Kerr and Sperry included Sperry almost knee barring Kerr and Kerr almost (or maybe actually) putting Sperry to sleep with a guillotine. |

Momma Kristin just sent word that Hunter has been given the green light and he will be coming home today. Hunter is up to 4lbs 9ounces and gaining fast. Word has it that Neal hasn't stopped sweating. You see, sooner or later Neal will have to change one of those "small packages" as they say in the wrassling world. I can't wait! You can run, but you can't hide Mr. Pimp Papa. |
The search is on for a new opponent for Vladimir "The Janitor" Matyushenko. I just spoke with Niko Vitale and he informed me that he pulled out of the match against rAw team member, Vladdy Matyushenko at the UCC4, scheduled for May 12th. This match was supposed to be for the vacant UCC World Light Heavyweight Championship. Vitale said that he has been busy with his regular full-time job and has not had time to train at all. Vitale's instructor, Egan Inoue, also recommended that he not take this fight because Vitale has not been able to train on a regular basis. |
(not official) Mark "The Specimen" Kerr defeats Mario "The Zen Machine" Sperry 0 to -1 It was rumored that Sperry went to guard in order to eliminate Kerr from taking him down. According to Abu Dhabi rules, a point was taken away from Sperry for doing this. Kerr made some supposed weak pass attempts, while Sperry actively sought leg locks or sweeps. Kerr took the conservative win and who can blame him for that kind of money. A lot of naysayers are dogging Kerr, but I seem to remember a fairly uneventful and conservative match that Sperry once had with Enson Inoue... What comes around, goes around my friend. BTW, we are BJJ guys and would have loved for Sperry to win, but we are talking about cold hard cash. A lot more cash than I make in a year. |
St. Louis wrestler a 'World' champion Honolulu Advertiser Posted on: Tuesday, April 10, 2001 Advertiser Staff
Spiker, 15, won seven matches in the 92-entry, 15-16 age bracket. He defeated Utah state champion Zack Elliott 2-1 in overtime in what was described as a grueling, bloody championship match. |

Because it's Good Friday, the academy will be closed today. Make sure that you don't show up down there because no one will be there. If you read this message late, you should check our page more often. |
On Sunday, April 22 all the Relson Gracie students are invited to play paintball at the Nimitz field. Call Rex to sign up so we know how many guys will be showing up (Call the main academy to get Rex's cell number, 589-2524). If we have 20 guys, we will have the field to ourselves. This will be the second time all the Jiu-Jitsu guys get together to play paint ball and it was a blast last time. Take H-1 east and take the Nimitz Hwy cut off to go under the viaduct. Just as you come out from being under the viaduct (staying on Nimitz Hwy), take the dirt road right after the Veterans recreation/convention center. |
Saulo Riberio may be stopping in Hawaii for two weeks on his way back from Abu Dhabi. As reported earlier today, Saulo is in the finals in Abu Dhabi as we speak. Along with being the defending Abu Dhabi champion, he is also a five-time BJJ black belt world champion and Royler Gracie black belt. Last time he came, he showed us killer techniques and with Fredson in town, moves should be plentiful. More details and confirmation will hopefully follow soon. |

Under 65 kg Weight Class
One interesting match-up is Gustavo Dantas from Nova Uniao (1997 Purple belt & 1998 Brown belt World BJJ Champion) versus Hawaii's Baret Yoshida. Gustavo has been out of competition for a while now since he has moved to Arizona. Baret is just coming off second place at the Japan Combat Wrestling Championships and last year's amazing match with defending champ, Royler Gracie. Guys to watch in this weight class include, Royler, Joey Gilbert, Robson Moura, Baret Yoshida, and Soca. Uematsu may be a force if he can handle the heavier opponents. He normally fights at a lower weight class. 66 kg to 76 kg Weight Class
Rodrigo Gracie, Abu Dhabi 1998 champ, returns to action to see if he can re-claim his title. Fernando Vasconcelos faces Kaoru Uno in probably the best match up of the first round. Leo Santo against Kato would have to be a close second. Genki Sudo who had an impressive showing in a fight against Andre Pederneira faces Rodrigo which should be a great match as well. There are too many fighters to list as far as favorites. This is probably the best class. In the higher weight classes, Saulo will have his hands full with Travis Lutter who is listed at a BJJ guy, but is also a great wrestler. There could be an upset. If Saulo continues, there could be a match between him and Nino which would be a great match up. Another intertesting match up is Tom Erikson versus Roberto Traven. Traven has been called the best guard in Brazil for a while and Erikson is a world class monster sized wrestler. BJJ Black belt phenom, Pe de Pano faces Mike Van Arsdale in another guard against top game. It will be interesting to see if Pe de Pano can continue his incredible win streak. |
