(if we don't get a chance to update the page in time) We hope everyone has a great time bringing in the New Year. If you are driving drink responsibly and if you are not...go for broke! |
Cleber Luciano's seminar was a success. He taught a lot of great techniques and said that he wants to come back and teach regularly, which is great everyone here. Cleber is a great instructor and from watching him roll with some of the guys, you can tell that he truly loves rolling. We can't wait for him to come back. An interview was done with Cleber Luciano while he was here and will be featured in the following issue of Full Contact Fighter. |
The Hawaiian Combat amateur shootfighting event is scheduled for tomorrow at Superstar Gym in Campbell Industrial (see the post on 12/23 for directions). The event starts at 7:00 PM. The entrance fee is $10, please come out and support the Hawaii's up and coming fighters and, more importantly, the sport. Correction: The Bas Rutten seminar is tentatively scheduled for January 22nd, the day after the 1st Annual Hawaiian Grappling Classic submission grappling tournament on January 21st (Saturday). We will share additional information as it becomes available. |

We would like to say Merry Christmas to all our family, friends/students. Have an enjoyable and safe Christmas and we will see you back in class on January 2nd. Remember that it is going to be no-gi month. Bring a crappy t-shirt (and an extra shirt), gi pants and belt. |
While "relaxing" at Ocean's night club on Saturday night, Mike bumped in to the black belt in partying, Relson Gracie, and Cleber Luciano who has just arrived. Cleber is about 5'6" or so and around 165 lbs., very solid and stocky. He said that he is looking forward to the classes on Wednesday and Thursday and staying in Hawaii. Mike told him that he should make more trips to Hawaii and give period seminars which he was very open to. Hopefully, that will happen. He's only in California so the airfare is fairly cheap and it's a quick flight. |

Royler Gracie black belt, Cleber Luciano, is coming to Hawaii and will be teaching two classes at Relson's main academy on 844 Queen Street. The plan is one class on the 27th and one class on the 28th and it only costs $20. Space is limited to reserve your spot by calling the main academy @ 589-2524. Here's the details: Date: December 27th & 28th Time: 7:00PM-9:00PM Cost: $20.00 per class |
The biggest question that I had about the up and coming Hawaiian Combat Amateur Pankration event is where is the JIL gym? Well, the address is: Hawaiian Combat (Amateur Pankration matches) Superstars Hawaii Gym (Jesus Is Lord Gym) 91-110 Hanua Street, #313 Campbell Industrial Park, Kapolei, Hawaii December 30, 2000 Fights start at 7:00PM $10 Tickets That's all fine and good, but many people have never been to Campbell Industrial Park. So here are some detailed directions: Go on the H-1 westbound and take the exit right after the Kapolei/Makakilo exit. It will take you in a circle and over the freeway going Makai. After about a mile or so, you will enter Campbell Industrial Park (after the race tracks) Take the third right after the main stop light and then take your first left to get onto Hanua Street. 91-110 Hanua will be the second driveway on your right hand side with a black motorized steel gate. Drive through the gate and up the ramp going up to the second floor. Bay #313 is at the opposite end of the ramp (on the Hanua Street side) |

I have about 6 metal locker units and 6 wooden lockers available for sale. They were previously used at Gold's Gym Pearl Kai before the renovation. They are in great shape. They are perfect for a martial arts school or work place. In fact my neighbor is using his to store things in his garage. I would post a picture of them, but I send my digital camera in to be fixed. The measurements are as follows: 3 lockers across and 4 high 78" high x 36" wide x 18" deep This makes each locker 17.25"x12"x18" They stand about 6" off the ground. Wooden lockers: 72" high x 12" wide x 19" deep These have either 2 or 3 lockers per piece. The metal lockers sell new for $500.00 a piece, but I am not looking for anywhere near that. If you or anyone you know would be interested in these lockers, please email me (chris@onzuka.com) or call me on my cell @ 381-5959 to make an appointment to check them out and make an offer. If I don't pick up the phone, please leave your name and number and I will get back to you. If you are wondering why I am trying to get rid of the lockers, it's because I thought that we could use them for our academy, but it turns out we did not need them. I am also moving, so I have to get rid of them. I am very flexible on the price, so please make me an offer. Thanks, Chris |

The Springer episode that Mike, Chris, Rex, Kaleo, and our women were on was replayed Friday night. Once again, we have missed taping it. If anyone happened to tape that show, PLEASE EMAIL US! |
Hawaii's own, Baret "the Baretcuda" Yoshida is tentatively slated to fight Katsuta in the January 19th Shooto Card. Katsuta lost a close decision to Anthony Hamlett in Hawaii at Superbrawl. He is a solid all around fighter and southpaw that should be very game to fight. Katsuta's record is 4-2 with two wins by rear naked choke submissions. Baret was stiffed in the three Shooto events, having been promised a spot and at the last minute, his fights kept on getting pulled. Hopefully, everything continues as planned and he gets to fight again to gain more experience to eventually gain the lightweight title from Nogueira. |
Dec. 17th SHOOTO Results "UM CAMINHO PARA O CAMPEAO" Dec. 17, 2000 - Tokyo Bay NK Hall Chiba, Japan Alex Cook def. Ray Cooper in round 1 by neck crank We are still waiting on the details of this neck crank and how this loss with affect Ray "Bradda" Cooper's number one ranking. This is a tough loss for one of the top Hawaii based fighters. Cook is no new comer to the fight game having fought Ken Shamrock in King of Pancrase tournament in 1994, won in Japan Valetudo 1997, Pancrase Eyes of Beast Tour 1 and has had quite a bit of success over a large span of years. round 1 by rear naked choke Kato may move up to number one ranking with this win over a very tough grappler in Dan Gilbert. round 2 by knee-bar guillotine Nogueira continues his incredible streak of wins by guillotine by taking out the up and coming local fighter "Bozo" Palling. TKO in round 2 The all around technical monster Sakurai proves that technique wins over raw aggressiveness by taking out the seemingly undefeatable Frank Trigg. 30-28, 30-28, 30-28 Mamoru finally claims the featherweight championship that was unoccupied for many months. round 1 by KO It has been reported that after the match, Uno gave back the welterweight championship belt and stated that is going to fight in Pride and in Pro-wrestling. Go figure... |
Dec. 16th Tokyo, Japan at the end of 3 rounds by unanimous judges decision at 20 seconds in the round 1 by arm bar submission Hallman once again gives Hughes his only losses in MMA. Hughes has been looking like an MMA machine in the 170 lb. class. Evan Tanner def. Lance Gibson, at 4:48 min of round 1 by referee stoppage (punches from mount) Tanner returns from a little break from fighting with success. at 2:24 min of round 1 by referee stoppage due to punches There are rumors that Takase is the king of grappling sparring matches with Uno, Sato and other top Shooto fighters. at 2:58 min of round 1 by referee stoppage due to punches Olympic wrestler Lindland gains a big win over a very tough and experienced Anjo. Pat Miletich (champion) def. Kenichi Yamamoto (challenger), at 1:58 min of round 2 by front choke submission (guillotine?) Miletich retains title Tito Ortiz (champion) def. Yuki Kondo (challenger), at 1:52 min of round 1 by cobra neck crank submission Ortiz retains title |

This page has been primarily devoted to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and NHB, for obvious reasons, but we are more than open to posting anything that has to do with any type of martial art in Hawaii or martial artist from Hawaii. We have had some complaints (from Shem) about not updating the site more often, but there is only so much info going around about BJJ and NHB that we personally run across, so please share anything that you think may be interesting. |
Details on Brennan Kamaka's up and coming events should be coming on Friday. I will post them as soon as I get them. |

We also went to the Jerry Springer show and Chris almost got into a fight with a pimp in a green satin shirt who was on the show. We don't know when the episode is going to air, but it features a man sleeping with his cousin (cheating on his wife) and a woman who became a prostitute because her husband (who was the spitting image of Tank Abbott) couldn't hold on to a steady job for 7 years. She had to sleep with the pimp, who was a fat, bald guy in the flourencent green shirt. The pimp was the wife's good friend, of course. If you see the show, please tape it for us, just in case we miss it. Eric Moon's Ironheart Crown was held on Nov. 4th, and was a huge success. It was standing room only and it was filled with great fights. The openweight champ even had an uncanny likeness to WWF's The Rock (Vaughan Palelei, a New Zealander can be seen on the Full Contact Fighter web page). Chris and Mike covered the event for Full Contact Fighter. |
